Why do Americans think it's easy to move to London?
Ever seen some of the questions here? Do they not realize that London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and that an apartment alone would cost about 300,000 pounds? I saw a recent post from a fellow American inquiring about employment as a nurse in London, along with owning a vehicle and "a studio flat." Won't that be a little too much too afford with a 20,000 pounds salary? Also, a few days ago I saw someone from Florida asking about living in London with a minimum-wage job. What?! I'm American. Why are the majority of our citizens so deluded? Upbeat, what you said was incorrect. With our looming recession, credit crisis, housing bubble, food inflation, it is impossible to own assets with a minimum-wage job. Let's assume you're right, though. Is it still okay to be ignorant if you live a different lifestyle in a different country? No! Watch the news, read books, read newspapers, chat with foreign nations - online, in person, anything! Get informed! Blair, but have you ever been to Europe, Middle East, Asia or Africa? Yeah, that's right, you haven't. "No offense or anything", but get the hell out of my country and visit places!

Because they are uneducated, and many believe what is true for America is true for some other countries as well. ***Liberal is correct***

Because we are used to having everything. Even people making poverty-level wages expect to have a car, nice tv, good clothes, meat on the table every night, etc. We don't truly realize how blessed we are as a country and how much of a struggle it is for folks in many other parts of the world to just get by from day to day.

Yes London is expensive,,,like the rest of the country. Is it easy for an Englishman to move to America?? I wanna get out before I have to get a mortgage to buy a bus ticket!!

300,000GBP is around 600,000USD. LOL Ever been to NYC or LA? 300,000GBP wouldn't buy 500 square feet in NYC! It's hard to move to any large city in just about any country.

in addition to what original poster said, they won't let you in unless you are in a critical shortage area, like medicine or engineering. the nurse does have a chance to get in, but good luck finding a place to stay... i had a young american student friend who had arranged to spend a summer working in a pub. she was turned back at immigration at gatwick. sent right back on the same plane.
