moving to london

moving to london...!
I'm in the early stages of planning a move to London which will hopefully happen after the new year but I'm not really sure where to start. So I have ALOT of questions. I've bumbered them so its easier for everyone haha. Ive got the obvious applications, Visa and Passport. I've acquired the right forms - first time passport and ancestry visa. 1) How soon should I lodge those? I know you have to apply for a passport before you can apply for the Visa so obviously I would do that first. 2) Do I need to have passport photos taken before I lodge the applications? 3) How do I go about finding a rental property? Is it even possible for me to rent in the UK? 4) Is it possible to find fully or partly furnished places? 5) Which are the bad areas on London? (Im 20 years old - Moving out of home, have lived with friends before but never alone). 6) How do I go about looking for a job? 7) How do I apply for a National Insurance Number? 8) How much money do you think I should save before I move to London? 9) Is London and expensive city to live in? 10) Will I need travel insurance if I'm going to live over there or is travel insurance only for holidays? 11) Should I get any sort of medical insurance before I go? Sorry, I know thats alot but its all so confusing. Incase theres anything Ive missed... 12) is there anything else you would like to add or you think I should know? Also, I should add. Ive mentioned before. Im 20 years old. From Australia. Currently living at home, taking time off my University Course (Nursing). Im basically wanting to go to London for a while as Im not sure where I want to go with my life and basically Im just looking at it as an adventure. I think Im at a time at my life where I need to go out and be independant. You should also know that Im not afraid of failing so dont be kind with your comments because I know moving overseas is going to be hard! Sorry for a long post. Thanks in advance! Ps. I just thought of something else! 13) What do I do with bank accounts? Can I keep my Australian accounts and open ones in London or do I need to transfer my current ones?

London is a culturally diverse city. There has been an unfortunate rise in knife crime within the city (Not central) . Living in London is EXCEPTIONALLY expense in comparison to other cities. Homes cost around £250,000-500,000 + ($USD 500,000 - 1,000,000 +). Check out some estate agents in London to find out rent prices. You have to have a large amount of cash to live in London, especially central. Most homes in London should be fully furnished and have modern interiors as the previous property boom which just ended a few months ago saw house prices boom and with that money was to be made. Do a lot of research about the city before moving here. Don't just rely on peoples answers from here. Oh and compared to Australia it's cold as hell (what a paradox) here, especially in winter... I haven't seen any snow for a while.

Why do Americans think it's easy to move to London

Why do Americans think it's easy to move to London?
Ever seen some of the questions here? Do they not realize that London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and that an apartment alone would cost about 300,000 pounds? I saw a recent post from a fellow American inquiring about employment as a nurse in London, along with owning a vehicle and "a studio flat." Won't that be a little too much too afford with a 20,000 pounds salary? Also, a few days ago I saw someone from Florida asking about living in London with a minimum-wage job. What?! I'm American. Why are the majority of our citizens so deluded? Upbeat, what you said was incorrect. With our looming recession, credit crisis, housing bubble, food inflation, it is impossible to own assets with a minimum-wage job. Let's assume you're right, though. Is it still okay to be ignorant if you live a different lifestyle in a different country? No! Watch the news, read books, read newspapers, chat with foreign nations - online, in person, anything! Get informed! Blair, but have you ever been to Europe, Middle East, Asia or Africa? Yeah, that's right, you haven't. "No offense or anything", but get the hell out of my country and visit places!

Because they are uneducated, and many believe what is true for America is true for some other countries as well. ***Liberal is correct***
    2 :
Because we are used to having everything. Even people making poverty-level wages expect to have a car, nice tv, good clothes, meat on the table every night, etc. We don't truly realize how blessed we are as a country and how much of a struggle it is for folks in many other parts of the world to just get by from day to day.
    3 :
no offense instead of sitting on ur pc crying...get outside n do somthing instead of bickering..n when i say outside..i mean outside of my country...o ya dont let the door hit ya in the ass
    4 :
Yes London is expensive,,,like the rest of the country. Is it easy for an Englishman to move to America?? I wanna get out before I have to get a mortgage to buy a bus ticket!!
    5 :
300,000GBP is around 600,000USD. LOL Ever been to NYC or LA? 300,000GBP wouldn't buy 500 square feet in NYC! It's hard to move to any large city in just about any country.
    6 :
in addition to what original poster said, they won't let you in unless you are in a critical shortage area, like medicine or engineering. the nurse does have a chance to get in, but good luck finding a place to stay... i had a young american student friend who had arranged to spend a summer working in a pub. she was turned back at immigration at gatwick. sent right back on the same plane.

Non EU citizens can not enrol on pre registration nursing courses in the UK. The rules changed last year, I think.

How do I become a Nurse

How do I become a Nurse?
I'm 17 years old, Home schooled. I want to become a nurse. I have a GPA of 3.78. This year I will be done with school and can't find any information on how to become a nurse. What steps do I need to take? And I want to take just nursing, Example: In London you can take classes just what you want. Just nursing no math no other classes. How do I find a school that will have that? Help!!

It probably depends on your country. Here you can take a Bachelors of Nursing Degree in College or a University Degree in Nursing. There are also Practical Nurses, Nurse Practitioners (requires University) or Midwifery. With even less school you can become a doula.

My daughter had no way to support herself and go to school, so here is what she is doing and it seems to be a good planand working. First she joined the search and rescue team , then that took her to EM certification for free and then she could be a volunteer ambulance driver. With that she was sent to school ( for free ) to become a CNA. This gave her the first hospital job and now making a decent living and will start her nurses training to get her RN. It is a long haul but can be done. Hope this helps with some ideas for you. She had only a GED to start with but with perseverance and hard work it can be done. Good luck.

Go to any local college to apply. And they will tell you what you need to do to apply. You may have to take English, Math and AP classes. But it is worth it

It would be possible if you are an RN and have the certification needed for NICU nursing. If you are contemplating becoming a nurse you would need to complete a 4 year degree program and pass the CRNE exam.

          2 :
          3) Yes 4) Yes 5) Stay out of east, & south, go for west and north is too expensive 6) Jobcentre, Gumtree.com, Internet 7) Google that 8) A hell of a lot London is EXPENSIVE! 9) Yes 10) Google that but i dont think so if ur living here, but for the journey maybe 11) If ur that worried 12) that ur crazy for wanting to move here, its cold, people are not friendly, u will not like it, u will be less happy, year after year london is worsening, there are alot of Aussies tho, nightlife is good but expensive, the french call london 'The City Of Blades' because of our knife crime, there is a credit crunch so everything is even moree expensive.. Hyde PArk is the best park to go, great shops, not too hard to find a job and you'll get flexibility Good Luck either way, i cant wait to leave, may even give Australia a go 13) i think u can/should also open one here =P

Is this some kind of joke??? if not, then you the dumbest person I know. Q1. How soon should I lodge those? LODGE WHAT???? Q2. Photos are always sent along with the applications, any applications. There is always a guideline with the application...read it! Q3. www.rightmoves.uk.co is the best place to find rented places. Q4. Yes, Q5. Avoid East London, and anyways, there is crime in any place in a city like London. Q6. Dumb question. Try totaljobs.com, monster.co.uk etc etc etc. Q7. Type in National Insurance Number in google, and u will find all the answers, Q8. Minimum £3000, atleast. Q9. already answered Q10. U have answered the Q. Q11. Depends, u can always have medical insurance, dont hurt to have it. Q13. Open acct in UK....................Dont you have any person in UK known to you. It would be much better. Most probably, you will have to stay in a motel or bed and breakfast for the first couple of months till you find a rental apartment...once that is done, look for a job, once that is done, look for a rich boyfriend..and u r done!!!

What is realistically expected of a student nurse

What is realistically expected of a student nurse?
Hey im applying for uni's to do a mental health nursing course, today I received a rejection from London City University with the reason ... 'You did not demonstrate a clear understanding of what is required to be a student nurse/midwife You had some difficulty expressing yourself clearly verbally and/or in writing' Could any student nurses or previous student nurses give any information or advise on what is expected as there is not a large amount of information available online or at school. :)

i trained as an rmn and found it a very rewarding experience their are alot of different areas to experience with different placements i worked in acute admissions, alcohol dependency and care of the elderly eg alzheimers. i also had a general nursing placement working on a stroke/ heart ward and the accident and emergency dept. i think things have changed a bit since i trained but expectations are the same with a proportion of workplace learning and in school learning.also to consider are health and safety aspects, risk assessment, manual handling regulation, medication administration and legislation. its also important to mention your position and knowing your limitations legally and morally. i hope this has helped a bit

          Nursing and Single Parenthood

          Nursing and Single Parenthood?
Ok, I'm a single mum as the title says, my son is 18 months old and I'm 21, his dad isn't involved, and we're English. When he was born, I applied to study nursing in London (I live about two hours away so we'd move). To my amazement I was given an unconditional offer at one of the two top places in the country to do it. I ended up deferring that year as it was looking difficult to start it all then with my son so young. Then by the end of last year things were looking pretty impossible. I'd be working irregular shifts, including the odd very occasional nightshift, leading to massive childcare problems, I think the only way I could do it was if I had an au pair, which would mean needing an extra room which I don't know if I could afford. I'd be working many hours a day and then coming home and having to do more work and I was worrying I'd get no time with my son. And I'd be in London, and although it's my dream to move away and start a new life elsewhere and this is probably my only opportunity, the fact that I have a baby and no friends or family around there is a bit nervewracking. So I ended up declining my place, and now I'm studying an Open University degree in history from home, which is ok but not particularly inspiring if I'm honest, and I still live with my dad which is driving me slowly insane. However now they've been sending me welcome letters and I've just had an answerphone message asking if I'm still going to be attending in September, so they have obviously neglected to record the fact that I've withdrawn, so it feels like I've been given another opportunity. I need to ring back today or tomorrow and let them know and I just don't know what to do. Everything seems to be pointing against me doing it, but it just feels like I'm turning down a massive opportunity to study somewhere really good and be directed straight into a stable career. And this is my last chance, because in future years they are getting rid of the diploma in nursing, and I don't have the qualifications to get onto the degree. However I would not sacrifice my relationship with my son for anything in the world. But I really don't know if it's going to be as bad as I'm imagining. I also think that, even when I'm done studying, working as a nurse and being a single mother is going to mean I'm missing a lot of things for my son. His birthday is 3 days after Christmas so statistically I would miss at least one of these occasions every year, for example, and I hate the thought of him being stuck with relatives without me. Has anybody done this, or been close to anybody who has? Be completely honest with me - is it a viable option for a single parent, both the studying and the actual career? Or do I need to say goodbye to it and keep doing what I'm doing now?

i can't say ive ever actually been given an opportunity such as you but i do know that ive held back a lot from moving to a new place and pursuing new things due to having kids. ive always thought i would take the chance if ever given an actual opportunity. my want to move away from where i live now and my dreams to get back into a career that i love are high but, as you stated, i have no family elsewhere and i often worry about the childcare issue. if i had a real reason to go id like to think that i would but i guess i just haven't been given a real reason yet. i do think that it would probably be a lot easier than i think and that we would be able to adjust and i would find a way to make things work, but since i have no real reason to ive just stuck with what i have here and what im doing now, hoping some day ill be given an opportunity to actually do what i want. as for your situation, i think you have definitely been given an extra opportunity that you should seriously consider. you have mentioned many times that you feel it is time to move out of your father's house and this would be the perfect reason/opportunity. plus, you get the chance at a career that you'll be really happy in. sure there will be hard times and sacrifices, but that comes with everything in life. it might be hard, but im sure you would find a way to make things work.

I have a friend who went off to university and her daughter was around 10 months. No I'm not going to sit here and say it was easy to do because she also had many childcare issues. But you know what. Go for the open even at least. See what your options are. Also you could start looking around for childcare. You may be able to apply for tax credits to help towards childcare costs. But whats the harm in going to the open evening? You never know. This could be the opportunity you needed.

I'm also a single mom and I think you should totally do this or you will forever regret it. I got pregnant with TWINS in my 1st year of college, gave birth to them 1 week after exams, went back for second year when they were 4 months old, graduated, worked for a year or so, went back to college for a different diploma when they were 2.5 years old, graduated a year later. I also work in a field that requires me to work odd hours, occasional overnights, occasional holidays ect. When I first took the job, I thought it would be so difficult, but it really hasn't been. My family has really stepped up to help, my boyfriend watches them sometimes too. You said you have no friends or family around you, but you could make friends. You can hire occasional babysitters, don't have to go all out on an au pair, but hey if you think that's what you need, then do that. Since you'd have to move, why not try and find like a roomate who instead of paying rent, babysits your son? I strongly believe in that cliche "where there's a will, there's a way". Think back to when you were pregnant, weren't you scared, didn't you think taking care of a baby on your own would be impossible? but you found a way. As far as working as a nurse, there's so many different types of nursing jobs out there. Nurses who work in doctor's offices or schools never have to work evenings/weekends/overnights. Yes, if you work in a hospital or nursing home you may need to work some holidays. I've had to work some holidays, but I don't have to work the whole day. You might end up working an 8-4 shift on X-mas, well you're still home for dinner, or if it's a 4pm-midnight shift then you'd be there for X-mas morning and afternoon. Or his birthday, well most people aren't home the entire day on their kids b-day. Parents work, kids go to school, they celebrate at dinnertime, have a party on the weekend before or after. I don't think these are problems that should make you reconsider a career in nursing altogether.
          3 :
I'm a single mum of two children age 2 and 4. I am also a nurse. I work for a private company now, 3 days a week, 8am-6pm. I get plenty of time with my children, reading bedtime stories to them on my work days is always a lovely way to end my day. I absolutely love my job, I give chemo and other IV therapies to patients in their own homes. I do have to be on call on a regular basis, but have never been called out yet. I have a fantastic childminder, so I'm very lucky in that respect. Have you considered sharing a nanny or au pair with another single mum? You could ask at the college if they have a nursery, or they may know of one. There is always a solution! Don't give up your dreams of becoming a nurse! Its the best and most rewarding job in the world and I love it! Good luck!

How do I get a nursing job in London as a newly graduate RN?
I am a newly graduating nurse with a RN license, who wants to live in London, England (yes I know about the lower pay grade for RNs....) I have dual citizenship in America and Jamaica, which was a british colony. Would I need sponsorship and how would I go about it? would I have to register with a travel nurse agency?

I'd get an idea of the number of open jobs there are in London. A good job search for England that lists all the open jobs is 'http://www.jobs-in-registered-nursing.com/nursing-jobs/uk-nursing-jobs/index.php. Sponsorship is the easiest way to go about this. You will need to get your license by passing an examination. You can find more information about it here: http://www.my-nursing-career.com/
          2 :
You need two years of hands-on experience from a good hospital. Try working for two years from where you are. Then after that you could go to London. It's good to have referrals.

What is a big city live and raise a family in Vancouver, Canada and surrounding areas?
I really wanted to move to London from St. Louis, MO but my fiance isn't having it. We have a daughter and by the time we will be ready to move she'll be around 5. I want to live in a big city with some type of hussle and bussle. But I also want to consider living somewhere safe that has decent schools for her to go to. I will have my nursing degree and he has 9 years experience in Food and resturant management. Any considerations? Please... I need enough time to plan.

Is that London, England or London, Ontario you were interested in, because England is so expensive that I don't know how anyone can afford to live there (maybe that will make you feel better since your fiance says no way). As far as moving to Canada, instead of look at locations, maybe start by looking at what you would require as far as immigration for your family. Check out what you would require as far as being able to use your nursing degree (likely upgrading and testing to qualify). I know many nurses who have left Canada for the USA because they were offered a lot more money to work there, and the Canadian nursing qualification is considered better than the US. Relocating between our 2 countries and being able to earn a living is not the easiest thing to do and takes a lot of patience and time with the bureaucratic process.

i love new westminster, we have all kinds of fairs, festivals, celebrations, and every thing. we also have a waterfront quay, that has fireworks on holidays and special events. Its a great place has great history and schools. and some really nice housing. Its safe and has its own fire station, police force, and ambulance system and hospitals. Before Victoria, we were also the capital of the province! there are parts of New Westminster that are busy and other parts that are quiet and have beautiful housing. we also have a few great parks, my favourite is Queens park it has a spray park, petting zoo and little kids park and a big kids park, there is also a concession open in the summer. we have lots of recreation. two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor open in the summer. We are also very close to Vancouver which is very nice.

          Moving To London? Help

          Moving To London? Help?
In about 3 years , I'll be moving to London for college. I want to go to a medical school there. What are some good college in london for me to learn about nursing/doctor? Should also buy a car there or should i just use the bus and stuff? I don't want to live in a dorm while in college and thinking of living in a household. Would living in a household be cheaper than staying in a dorm? I won't have much money because my parent are paying only $5,000 dollars. And my brother is giving me about $10,000 so its $15,000 total. Would that be enough for 1 year at London at a start? I'm 15 right now, turning 16 in 3 month so i'll be getting a job to prepare myself for college. How much money exactly would you think i need to make in 3 years before going to college?

Firstly, unless you are an EU citizen you will not be able to train as a nurse in the UK due to funding laws. You can apply to medical school but it isn't easy to be accepted http://www.wanttobeadoctor.co.uk/main.php?page=29. You do not have near enough money for fees, let alone living expenses. You will need visa enabling you to study in the UK.
          2 :
There is a shortage of Medical Staff in the UK. If you are from the US, or another non EU country, consider obtaining a visa and a job and moving here after you are qualified..

If you don't want to attend college or university in U.S for nursing degree, take degree in nursing before you come to U.S from England. You can also ask work permit in U.S if you have england recognize degree in RN or vocational nursing. ( I guess so). I'm studying RN in U.S but not yet in program. It's also a good idea to come and study in U.S for nursing degree. RN is very popular major and in high demand. But some colleges have waiting program which is usu: take about two years to get into the program. It's better to accomplish your study in England and try for work permit visa as nurse. Good luck with your career.

I know nursing degrees in the UK do transfer to the States. Im not sure how this is done but i know people who have done it.

Many Brits actually live in France but if you are a nurse you should be welcome to as we need nurses to...in the south of France some hospital are recruting nurses from Spain and provide them with accomodation + french courses.... But in any case if you moove here you will need to learn the languages ...if not you wont be able to live properly...it will be the same for a French speaker living in the UK ..it will be quite difficult ... http://www.frenchentree.com/living-in-france/ Welcome to our lovely country.

Because we are used to having everything. Even people making poverty-level wages expect to have a car, nice tv, good clothes, meat on the table every night, etc. We don't truly realize how blessed we are as a country and how much of a struggle it is for folks in many other parts of the world to just get by from day to day.

Where is a good place to live in England

Where is a good place to live in England?
I am from California and might be moving to England to go to Nursing school. I have been to London once but I live in the suburbs ( 30 minutes away from Los Angeles) so I don't really want to live in a major city. Where is the best place price-wise for a young adult/student (crime rate, employment, housing, etc.) that could be a short distance from London or other big cities?

wel I live in a town called washington, its in the middle of newcastle and sunderland two quite big citys. Its a really nice place to live and there is lots to do. Its not far from the beach (about 20mins) although you will probs think its freezing here all the time haha. The nightlife is really good to, theres newcastle which is one of the best nights out in the UK, sunderland, washington, durham, chester, shouth sheilds gwwd the list goes on.... anyway theres a shopping centre and the metro centre which is the biggest shopping centre in europe is about 30mins away Its quite far from london but a train only takes about 5hours so its not that bad and there is loads of other citys close by like york and glasgow which I love!! Hope this helps and hope you like England xxxxx

          2 :
Don't pay anyone anything. The address is fake. There is no such no such postcode, the street exists but there is no 22 and the street has a different postcode. The Holly House Hospital I've found is a private hospital based in Essex, which is outside of London and it's advertising vacancies which you could apply for yourself. It is possible that as a private company their registered headquarters is not based at the facility in Essex but the address is far too wrong for a professional organisation. http://www.hollyhouse-hospital.co.uk/content/file/vacancies_list.asp Contact the hospital direct to find out if you have been offered a job or if they use an agency to bring in staff. You don't need an agency to apply for a visa to the UK, you can apply for one yourself and I would advise you to contact your nearest British Embassy to find out if this agency is known to them, they should also be able to tell you for sure if this is a scam.

          moving to london

          moving to london?
Hi. I am currently living in America and am going to attend college here to become a nurse. I have always wanted to live in London, I think its a fabulous place. I already know it is VERY expensive but I am only looking to buy a studio flat (yes, i know, still somewhat expensive) and live a fairly frugal lifestyle. Owning a car would be nice,bu by no means necessary. I would be fine using public transport. Many people have said the weather is horrid, but I actually enjoy cloudy and rainy. So my question is, is such a lifestyle within my reach? And also is there a demand for nurses in London? And do they accept American college graduates? Sorry for all of the questions, but I really want to do this. I am sorry. RENT is what i meant, not buy! This may sem like a dumb question, but how much cheaper is it to rent than buy a studio flat?

I see no reason why you can't do it... I also want to be a nurse, then move to Canada, which is also fairly expensive, with horrid weather... Good luck to both of us!!
          2 :
In order to work in the UK you will need a work visa. To get one of these, as an American, you will need to find an employer to sponsor you and that employer will then need to prove to the relevant authorities that they can't source your particular form of labour from outside the EU. For most Americans, this is a problem, but nurses are always in demand here and there is a good possibility that you may well get a visa. However, I have to be honest in that you are severely overestimating your earning potential as a nurse. My cousin is a nurse and earns, at best, £20,000. With that sort of salary you won't be able to get a mortgage in excess of £100,000. With the prices of studio flats heading towards the £200,000 mark, it will be nigh on impossible to buy anything. With a nurse's salary you will almost certainly have to share a rented place with someone and owning a car isn't really that likely. Sorry if this isn't the answer you wanted but London is a lot more expensive than people realise. I mean, I'm a lawyer and even I can't afford a mortgage or a car!
          3 :
SJM is right, now is certainly not the time to be buying, you should only consider renting until this recession is over. All banks in the UK have now stopped 100% or more mortgages and on a nurse's wage, that's probably what you'd need. You won't need a car in London, it's far too expensive and the tube and/or buses are just fine. As the majority of our nurses are immigrants from Asian countries who are willing to work for low wages, I suggest trying to be a private nurse in a private hospital or clinic who are far more likely to get better pay.
          4 :
Are you dreaming? London is the financial capital of the world. It's a VERY expensive city, and the salary of a nurse can't buy you a new car, let alone a flat. Leaving that aside, you may have a chance of getting a job as a nurse, but we have plenty of folks from Asia who work in the hospitality industry. So your expertise may not be a huge demand in this country. Yes, they hire American college graduates, but you would have to pass a test to be a certified nurse in England.

          Moving to London, England Question

          Moving to London, England Question?
I am i the tenth grade at High School in Ohio in the US. I want to move to London, England. I am curious if that would be possible, what I would need to know about moving, how long it would take, the test I need to take to become a citizen. Also, how much money would I need to take to get a house and a car. Lastly, if I went to college in the US and went to become a Registered Nurse for 4 years, could I graduate from college in the US and become a Registered Nurse in London with no problem? THANKS FOR ANSWERING ALL THESE QUESTIONS AND HELPING IF YOU DO!

The immigration system in the UK is similar to that in the US in that you need similar to a "green card" in order to work here. You may be able to stay here temporarily if you can obtain a student visa especially if you were going into the medical profession as there are a severe lack of good nurses, midwives and doctors in this country, especially in London. Obviously the best way to do this would be to train in the US and then apply to transfer to the UK. Professions like nurses, doctors, teachers and scientists are top of the list for obtaining permits to work in the UK so that is a good start. To become an actual citizen, you'd have to apply separately and you have to know about the culture. You get tested on the history, culture and language of the UK and get a certificate when you have successfully completed and passed your citizenship test.

You are so to be admired. Nurses usually get paid great money. Just call one of their offices and ask. Nurses are in such demand that nobody would turn you down for a job because you asked how much you will be paid. What an honor to be gifted with talent like yours. God be with you and guide you where He wants you to go.
          2 :
Nurses in the Bay Area actually earn good money. It depends on what company you work for. If you decide to go with an agency, then you earn a little less but get tax free housing allowance every month which costs about 4-5 thousand. You will probably get from 27-40 dollars an hour. The housing and hourly salary will be inversely proportional. More money for housing, lesser hourly pay and the other way around. If you decide to work for a hospital, you'll be earning from 45-70 dollars and hour. Again, it depends on your position in the hospital. Contingent/Per diem/On call or however you call it, earn closer to the upper limit because they don't have benefits. Benefited positions, although earn lesser than the per diems, get more perks and bonuses and of course a sure schedule.

Hello, Im a 2nd year adult student nurse. I remember in my interview them asking me about the basics about being a nurse, i talked about how it was important to do the little things eg. brushing the patients teeth, brushing their hair. I explained how if the patient feels better about themselves it may help them be more motivated. Especially in mental health where you will see alot of patients with depression. You also neeed to give the appearance that you are confident when you have the interview, i have learnt in nursing that if you are not confident in what you are doing the patients can see that, making them nervous. I have a book called "Essential Nursing Skills" by Nicol, Bavin, Bedford-Turner, Cronin and Rawlings-Anderson. It definitely helped me understand the basics of nursing. I no i felt exactly the same, there isn't alot of information available on the internet. Nursing is really hard, emotionally and physically but i really enjoy it!! Hope that helps.

          why not?
          3 :
Anybody can buy one . But its not very likely on a nurses wage . A doctor perhaps .
          4 :
only if they do secret "nursing" with the doctors :P
          5 :
yes if they win the lottery

          hahahaha........when you're 60.
          7 :
It's not illegal for them to do so, though where thy will get the money from I can't say. Most Nurses cannot afford such cars.
          8 :
YES!!! Absolutely. While a brand new one or most models will cost upwards of $300K US, I just found one on www.autotrader.com (used cars) for about $50K US. An RN Nurse in Los Angeles can easily make $90K per year and more if she likes to work through agency jobs as well. If she put $10K as a down payment (from selling a previous car, for instance), over 60 months, with the interest rates as low as possible, she could get away with payments of about $750 per month. Not unheard of at all! So absolutely! :-)
          9 :
Why not if they can earn £128 per hour as contract nurses.
          10 :
Sure, why not? As long as you have the money, you can buy any car you want...

Doctors cannot do direct hiring. All hiring in the UK is done through the NHS, but they are not hiring nurses from outside the EU. And hotel workers cannot be sponsored - they are not on the skills shortage list. Doctors do not own hospitals AND hotels. If this is an internet job offer, it's a scam that will steal your money. DO NOT respond or send any passport or banking information. Patrick Cole is prolific a Nigerian scammer. Is nursing something that's worth it

Is nursing something that's worth it?
All I hear about now at my McDonald's job is people who have graduated college and now cannot find jobs. I'm afraid that will happen to me. I looked into nursing when I was about 16 (I'm 19 now) and my mother told me not to do it because it would mean working on holidays and never having a moment to myself. I'm not sure if it's like that or not, but I do know that I wouldn't mind it at all. Holidays have always been unimportant in my family, and I see no point of making them a big deal on my own. Besides, helping someone who is in the hospital for Christmas would make the holidays far more enjoyable to me. I also love to travel, but I don't know much about travel nursing. It would be wonderful to be able to do nursing in Spain, London, France, and all over the world if I could. I'm sure I could squeeze in a few cultural experiences in my off time, even if it won't be much. I'd also like to do the Peace Corps. Money aside, because I'm sure it's more than my McDonald's income anyway, is nursing worth it? I'd go to a community college in order to get an LPN degree if possible. Science is a tough subject, but I'm willing to do whatever it takes to have a career that I love, and that would be any career that lets me travel, help others, meet new people, and feel good about myself while I'm exhausted at the end of the day. Exhaustion is great to me. I like to feel my body tell me that I've worked hard. I guess that's kind of weird. But, back to the question. Is nursing worth it? Will I have a hard time getting a job? I don't want to be like some of the other McDonald's workers...having a degree but not being able to get a job. How soon after nursing school would I be able to travel? Could I get a job out of state? Could I get a job at a Charity hospital? I would really love to work at an inner city hospital in the emergency section. Quick question: Nursing is nothing like television, is it? I've seen scrubs, and that much drama and silliness in a hospital is far too amusing to be true.

Any medical job is worth it, IF that is something that your are passionate about & love to do. To do it for money or the fact that you can find a job--those are the people who are miserable. Your best bet is to get a RN-either through the community college system or the university. There are pre-reqs and a wait list however. So it may take you a few years to even start. I also recommend volunteering at a hospital to really see the environment. You do work a lot of holidays & often night shifts; but I don't know why everyone thinks nurses have no time for themselves. If you do a 12 hour shift you get 3-4 days a week off or more--better than the average job. As to working in different states, once you pass the national exam all you need to do is apply for a license in which ever state you wish to work in. International nursing is far less common and rather difficult-but you are light-years away from that. To become a traveling RN with in the US, you would need several years experience working. Keep in mind, travelers are there to work, not site see.

Hard work, lots of studying, responsibility and accountability etc. I trained 30 years ago and quit last Christmas as times have changed for the worst and felt my patients weren't getting the care and dignity they deserve anymore !! Too many people doing the job with limited skills today and I'm a bit old fashioned (in my 40's) so standards slipped...just had enough.
          3 :
If you want to do it, then its worth it. I think your family should be more supportive/encouraging of your goals & ideas. It sure beats McD's! Just FYI, to travel you need a Bachelors of Nursing, and you need to be able to speak fluently the language of the country (Spanish, French, etc as you indicated). You can travel locally (in the US, if that's where you're located) but this takes a couple years experience first before you can do this. To travel internationally is quite expensive, as it involves a lengthy process of obtaining licenses, etc. In some cases, licenses can take around 6 months to obtain... so its best if you're moving there for at least a year. You can work as much or as little as you want, as with any job. Where I work, a full time position is 2 day shift, followed by 2 night shifts, followed by 5 days off (which is technically 4, because you sleep for 1). All shifts are 12 hours. You are free to pick up overtime on your days off, which many people do. Sometimes you work holidays, but thats just part of the job. As far as ease in getting a job, it fluctuates. 2 years ago, it was dead easy to get a job anywhere as a new grad. Now, times are a lot tougher. However, in another year or two this will open back up- especially with this new health plan in place- and more nurses will be in demand. Definitely worth it. But do a degree, to give you more options. It'll save you upgrading later.

I am an RN in the US and I must say getting your license to practice will depend on what state you are planning to move to or practice in. I live in North Carolina, the web site for the state board of nursing here is www.ncbon.com. Once you contact the state board of nursing for the state you want to practice in, they will give you information on testing (test sites, fees etc.) Good Luck!
          2 :
Go to the NY state board of nursing website. They will be able to guide you. There is a shortage of nurses all over the U.S. Good Luck http://www.op.nysed.gov/nurse.htm
