Yes it is a very difficult process to obtain a nursing license in another country. If you are not living in an EU country it is almost impossible to become licensed in England.

Nursing diploma after BSc

Nursing diploma after BSc?
I have successfully completed a degree in Biology and now I want to do a diploma in Nursing in London to get a bit "more vocational" - anyway I'm accepted and everything but I need to pass a health clearance. I have mild Epilepsy will this exclude me? Anyway, has anyone done such a diploma and is it very difficult? Is it weird to be like 25 when you finish all your Uni stuff? Also,

I'm 9 weeks pregnant and had my routine blood tests done 3 days ago. How long for the results in London?
I just wondered how long roughly they took to come back? i am quite nervous about them and have been told that no news is good news so if i don't hear anything then i have nothing to worry about. Do you think the results would already be back at the docs and I would have heard by now if anything was wrong. Stupidly I forgot to ask the nurse at the time how long it would take and now i am stressing!

Not that familiar with UK versus here in US. Here we have community colleges and Vet centers and colleges all over. My best advice is to GO TO THE SOURCE! If you can't get help online, then call, or better yet, GO visit tour local vet clinics and service centers.. ASK the Vet Techs there where and how they got their training. Ask a lot of people there from Vet DR.s on down to the secretaries, and DO NOT forget to check/visit your local Zoo as they will have some VERY highly trained doctors on staff with EXTREMELY wide experience in not just the everyday dogs and cats and birdies, but with the more challenging areas of exotic and wildlife husbandry and research. And while we are on the subject, why limit yourself to Tech or Nursing duties? AT 22 you are perfectly set to go for a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and specializes in any are you want from domestic, to farming, to wildlife. That could easily become a VERY satisfying and EXCITING life. I went the other way and went into human medicine, If I had ir all to do over I think I'd have gone the veterinary route! Paths not taken! Good luck, Bob

hospital exists in your place? "Queen Elizabeth General Teaching Hospital" Trust Stadium RD Woolwich London SE184QH. ??... visa & other documents are being worked by their own travel agency, also, expenses are to be reimbursed later. However, owing to scam spreading even in UK- i doubt the validity. I suspect its the same scam operators who are in Africa (no offense) & trying their luck in a different place by using perhaps non-existing hospitals/ companies...hence asking this to you yappers. This is the address of the hospital referred to - (The NHS Trust bit is just the way the hospitals in the UK are managed now): Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust Stadium Rd, London, SE18 4QH Tel: 020 8836 6000 Check their link below (they have no connection with that hospital in Barbados. I don't think so anyway.) - - - (edit) Ouch! just spotted this on their website - seems they are warning about a scam: http://www.queenelizabeth.nhs.uk/newsarticle.php?newsid=62

If it is a scam, it would definitely generate from this area, the place is full of Africans, who are synonymous for scamming. Take care.

I don't know if there's any distinctly "black" parts of London as it were. But London is such an amazingly multicultural/ethnic city you should have no problem meeting anyone of any colour/variety/belief, etc. That's why I love it so. :)
3 :
There are many universities in and around London, but I am only personally experienced with London Metropolitan University (http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/) which is located in North London and has a very diverse student body. I am not sure of the exact statistics, but most people in my classes there were black or asian. I am a white female and was definitely a racial minority. I had one class with 100+ people where I was the only white person in the room. That being said, I was never made to feel like an outsider and all the students were very friendly to me and I was always included in their activities and conversations. I did a quick scan of London Metropolitan's website and it looks like they do have at least one nursing program, but I suppose it depends what specific area of nursing you're looking in to. The school is not in a fantastic part of the city, but I never felt unsafe walking around there especially since it was located right off the underground station so I didn't need to walk a lot through the area. London in general is a very diverse and accepting city so I don't think you'll feel like an outsider no matter where you end up. Hope this helps!

london is a fantastic city and if you want areas to move to where there is a large black culture try and finad a place in brixton in south london or hackney a london borough in east london hope this helps :)

does dental nursing help entry to dentistry

does dental nursing help entry to dentistry?
i am going to london to do a part time dental nursing for 2 years. i want to work for a year after completing the course. I finally want to get into uni for dentistry. i dont have enough grades to get inti uni directly so i am taking this route. Is this good way you think? Will this help me for getting accepting into uni for dentistry later on?

If you haven't got the grades you'll need to prove yourself academically, its just the bottom line with courses like that. You must at least meet the minimum requirments. I would do your research into all of the dental schools in the UK (I'm assuming UK) and look for what they actually require, some will want different things. Have you ever thought about doing a degree, in something like biology or physiology or even anatomy. That would put you ahead of the rest, especially the school leavers and would prove you are academically suitable for a career in dentistry. Also I dont think you require 3 years of dental nursing to stand out, you could volunteer every summer between your degree years, you just need to show you have a realistic view of what a career in dentistry involves and that you are actively pursuing it. Do not rely on having experience in the dentistry field to get you onto the degree. Also I'm not sure, and you'll need to look into this, some universitys may offer a foundation entry into dentistry degree where when you finish your first year and meet all requirement you automatically get into the dentistry degree. I know this is true with medicine, and its like to require lower grades. I'm not 100% sure sorry. But just concentrate on meeting the minimum requirements, you dont want to waste 3 years and not even meet the criteria they ask for. You'd get rejected without them even reading your personal statement.

It might help. Especially if you get lots of As and only a few Bs. Work experience might help to. You might get letters of recomendation or maybe your boss knows someone who can pull strings, if they like your work that is!

To study to become a nurse (in london) how intense does it get?
I was thinking of doing an access course on nursing so I can get into doing nursing in uni. But I have a few questions, How intense does the process get? This day and age if I do take the course and study at uni, how likely is it that I would find a job? ALSO What's better in terms of finding a job, adult nursing or paediatrics? Please your help would be much appriciated. I don't want to go into something blindly and regret it. By the way living in London. Thank you

well, I'm going to be studying "access to Nursing" In August. And, I want to do psychiatric nursing. One reason being, in that now a days, the nursing industry is really popular, and its a career a lot of people want to get into. Therefore, there is very little jobs for general nursing now. So yeah, it will be pretty tough to find a job. But I live in Scotland, so London will be slightly different; you'll have more hospitals etc, so there will be more for you there. The good thing about an access course, is that it runs on for just less than a year, and its a pretty good taster of what your training is going to be like... so if you do the access course and don't like it, its not the end of the world. Adult nursing is reasonably popular, but not as much so as general. psychiatric nursing is not very popular at all, the least popular in fact. I think it will be quite Intense, obviously nursing isn't easy so there will be a lot of course work & essays. But, if its something you really wanna do then you should definitely try it out. It will be great experience for you.

I am studying to be an RMN (Registered Mental Health Nurse) in London.?
On completion of my Diploma I am interested in working/studying in the states. However, I will need to qualify as a General Nurse before I can practice as a Mental Health Nurse despite being qualified in the UK. I don't particularly want to spend more than a year qualifying as a General Nurse. Can anyone shred some light onto my options,
Higher Education (University +) - 2 Answers

1 :
As the largest healthcare occupation, registered nurses held about 2.6 million jobs in 2009. Hospitals employed the majority of RNs, with 60 percent of such jobs. About 8 percent of jobs were in offices of physicians, 5 percent in home healthcare services, 5 percent in nursing care facilities, and 3 percent in employment services. The remainder worked mostly in government agencies, social assistance agencies, and educational services. Overall job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to be excellent, but may vary by employment and geographic setting. Some employers report difficulty in attracting and retaining an adequate number of RNs. Employment of RNs is expected to grow much faster than the average and, because the occupation is very large, 581,500 new jobs will result, among the largest number of new jobs for any occupation. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of job openings will result from the need to replace experienced nurses who leave the occupation. Employment change. Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be driven by technological advances in patient care, which permit a greater number of health problems to be treated, and by an increasing emphasis on preventive care. In addition, the number of older people, who are much more likely than younger people to need nursing care, is projected to grow rapidly. However, employment of RNs will not grow at the same rate in every industry. The projected growth rates for RNs in the industries with the highest employment of these workers are: Industry Percent Offices of physicians 48 Home health care services 33 Nursing care facilities 25 Employment services 24 Hospitals, public and private 17 Employment is expected to grow more slowly in hospitals—healthcare's largest industry—than in most other healthcare industries. While the intensity of nursing care is likely to increase, requiring more nurses per patient, the number of inpatients (those who remain in the hospital for more than 24 hours) is not likely to grow by much. Patients are being discharged earlier, and more procedures are being done on an outpatient basis, both inside and outside hospitals. Rapid growth is expected in hospital outpatient facilities, such as those providing same-day surgery, rehabilitation, and chemotherapy. More and more sophisticated procedures, once performed only in hospitals, are being performed in physicians' offices and in outpatient care centers, such as freestanding ambulatory surgical and emergency centers. Accordingly, employment is expected to grow fast in these places as healthcare in general expands. Employment in nursing care facilities is expected to grow because of increases in the number of older persons, many of whom require long-term care. Many elderly patients want to be treated at home or in residential care facilities, which will drive demand for RNs in those settings. The financial pressure on hospitals to discharge patients as soon as possible should produce more admissions to nursing and residential care facilities and referrals to home healthcare. Job growth also is expected in units that provide specialized long-term rehabilitation for stroke and head injury patients, as well as units that treat Alzheimer's victims. Employment in home healthcare is expected to increase in response to the growing number of older persons with functional disabilities, consumer preference for care in the home, and technological advances that make it possible to bring increasingly complex treatments into the home. The type of care demanded will require nurses who are able to perform complex procedures. Job prospects. Overall job opportunities are expected to be excellent for registered nurses. Employers in some parts of the country and in certain employment settings report difficulty in attracting and retaining an adequate number of RNs, primarily because of an aging RN workforce and a lack of younger workers to fill positions. Qualified applicants to nursing schools are being turned away because of a shortage of nursing faculty. The need for nursing faculty will only increase as many instructors near retirement. Despite the slower employment growth in hospitals, job opportunities should still be excellent because of the relatively high turnover of hospital nurses. To attract and retain qualified nurses, hospitals may offer signing bonuses, family-friendly work schedules, or subsidized training. Although faster employment growth is projected in physicians' offices and outpatient care centers, RNs may face greater competition for these positions because they generally offer regular working hours and more comfortable working environments. Generally, RNs with at least a bachelor's degree will have better job prospects than those without a bachelor's. In addition, all four advanced practice specialties—clinical nurse spec

For starters you'll need to top up your diploma to a degree because the USA don't employ foreign nurses without a degree. And the only way you can make up the training hours to become a general nurse is to actually do them, there's no two ways about it I'm afraid. I'm doing Adult Degree at Brighton & I believe Brighton does the top up courses for nurses wishing to work in the States. I'm sure other uni's do too but the bottom line is if you're serious about working in the States you'll put the work in. It can take up to 5 years to actually get a nursing job over there so you've plenty of time to study. You may well take the NCLEX straight after qualifying but finding a job, sorting sponsorship, visa etc is what takes time. I've looked into it myself & the USA quite rightly prioritises employment of their own nurses before that of foreign nationals, hence why it isn't easy.

St. Mark Hospital London Nurse/Caregiver Scam

St. Mark Hospital London Nurse/Caregiver Scam?
St. Mark Hospital London Nurse/Caregiver Scam? This is about the scam for nurses and caregivers promises to be a staff in st. martin hospital in london. A lot of promises are mare like no placement fee, no salary deductions and the like. But you have to pay p3000.00 for the training that will be held in 36th floor PBCOM tower in Ayala, Makati. They used the company Bayer, saying that Bayer is the sister company of St. Mark in London, they were name of the doctors in said hospital. Bayer said that this is really a scam and should be reported to authority.
London - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
You have your answer, Bayer say it is a scam. This is a scam designed to get you to pay fake fees to cover the training. You will be put asked to send the money via Western Union. Once you send them money, they will come back and say that you have to pay a further fee. This will continue for as long as they can get money out of you, but you will NEVER get your training and the job never existed. UK employers have to be licenced by the Home Office to sponsor non EU workers and the sponsoring employer always handles the documentation direct with the Home Office. The sponsoring employer always pays for the visa. Under immigration law, there is no way a UK company could offer you a job without interviewing you and an extensive recruitment process. You have to complete the Overseas Nursing Programme before you are able to work in the UK. It's a 20 day programme and is only offered in the UK and is training under supervision in the workplace. Bayer is a commercial company, the hospital is a NHS hospital. It cannot have a sister company. All UK companies have bank accounts. There is therefore no need to use Western Union EVER to end money to a stranger. If anyone EVER suggested sending money this way, it is guaranteed to be a scam.

I'm a 22 year old US Citizen. I want to apply for duel Citizenship in the UK. I know it can take 5 years before I can become a citizen. My problem is that I have to have visas to live there during the 5 year process; I don't know how I will make a living. Can someone please help me by explaining how to find LEGAL WORK in London. You can't get Dual citizenship unless you marry a citizen, at least one of your parents are british citizens, or you're born there in the first place!!!...after 5 years you are a NATUARLIZED citizen, still difficult. See if you're school offers a program to study abroad but that still isnt a permanent answer, plus your daughter. While you are there though you can network and see your options. In order to get a job there, being a US citizen the employer has to apply for the working visa on your behalf you 100% cannot as an individual. Meaning you need to get hired first and if they can get a citizern there, EU citizen or a common wealth citizen first, they will do that because its a cheaper and easier process to intrigrate them opposed to US citizens. It's hard but nursing is a very versitile field and they are always needed. Good luck. :) Any questions just message me

Can a caregiver working abroad like London or Canada could save enough for his or her future

Can a caregiver working abroad like London or Canada could save enough for his or her future?
I am a teacher and I already lost interest in my job a long time ago.I am jobless for a while and I am planning to enroll for a caregivers program.Like doctors in the Philippines who would study nursing,it seems that the trend nowadays is that teachers who are not earning enough w/ their profession would either join the call center industry or work as a caregiver abroad.Such is the reality of life here in the Philippines.Just like teachers who have gone earlier to work as caregivers abroad, soon I will be following in their footsteps. My question is - Will it helped me save enough for my future?

Doubtful. It's hard to get a permanent job in the UK unless you are moving within a company. Even then it may be limited to 3 years.
4 :
you need to modify your question. it's not clear. In the European union they pay their employees to move, would London, England (more specifically, an employer) pay for you to move out there? Maybe if you talked to someone and they really need your skills. Otherwise, i doubt it.
5 :
It depends on what company and what contract is offered. Some do some don't. If you are thinking about making the move or when you are applying for the job the advert or recruiter for the role should cleary articulate this for you.

retirement in Australia for females is 60 not compulsory
2 :
Atleast over 21 yrs
3 :
You can retire in Australia at 55 but you don't have to. Age benefits such as health care cards are available at 60 for women and 65 for men. There is, however, no compulsory retirement age and women of 57 are working in many fields including nursing. That being said, your mother might have some difficulties. It is illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age (or anything else) but people over 50 find it far more difficult to get a job than younger people. There is always some alleged non-discriminatory reason for not employing them. I would write to a few hospitals in the area you are interested in and ask them about possible employment. You might find an enthusiastic reception if there is a shortage of nurses in the area.

I say go, whether it be for a semester, year, or to obtain a degree. It's not hard to get a visa, there are just a lot of steps to follow. The benefits to doing either of the three in London is the experience of living in another country and seeing another way of life. That's probably the biggest benefit.
3 :
If you are not a British national you will not be admitted to a nursing degree. This is because the NHS pays a bursary to nursing students. You could do a course in health and social care or public health though.

london givs a great experience but its damn expensiv

What is the nursing program at Western University in London, Ontario like

What is the nursing program at Western University in London, Ontario like?
I have been accepted to Western University for Nursing and I am confused about the clinical aspect of it. If anyone has taken this program and can explain it in more detail would be great. The booklet says that you are in clinical in first year and you visit families etc. I do not understand how that works. Do you do it alone? Do you visit these people at their homes? Do you get an address to thier homes and expected to get there? Do you have prior training before doing this and do you know what to do? Also how is the clinical done in a hospital and are there any hospitals nearby? I am very confused about this and what the clinical experience is like will determine where I will go to school. Also if anyone has taken this program do you like it? Thank you if anyone can give me an answer! Also I would like to know how many hours do you do your clinical and how many times a week.

From what I understand is this. You and a small group of your classmates will be assigned to a local hospital.. "local" can be within i believe 30 minutes and whichever hospital your school has a contract with. You will be responsible for driving to the hospital and from there you will be learning the ropes from the nurse in charge of you guys. Soon you will be taking care of patients with the nurses. In terms of visiting families, that is either at the hospital or if your program includes hospice care,, then it may be at a nursing home or their personal house. At this point you will either be alone or with another person. You will be expected to get there on your own. Your school will train you on the mannerisms. ALL nursing programs are like this so there is no way you can pick and choice from this aspect.
2 :
Clinical placements during nursing school take place in many settings including hospitals, nursing homes, mental health settings and the community. You are supervised at all times as a student so you wouldn't be sent anywhere on your own. if you were doing a home visit as part of a community nursing clinical you would go with the nurse preceptoring you.Clinical placements take place throughout the whole program and give you an opportunity to practice hands on skills with patients. Every school has it's own set up as to how often and how long. Usually you would be present for a whole shift ina hospital( mine were always 8 hours) and if you are on a day shift you will have to be a the clinical site early in the morning.

I am not too sure about the next Nurses Fair in London. What I do know is, is that there is a Nurses Fair, organized by the Anglia Ruskin University on the 2nd of August. As a non-student you would have to preregister. If you are looking for your next nursing job, why not persue a nursing career in Australia. I know a very reliable company in Australia and the consultants there really make it their business to look after you!!! www.healthstaffrecruitment.com.au or www.hsr.com.au are their websites. Good Luck! Marijke

In Muswell Hill, London N10, in 1934, was there a maternity/nursing home called White House

In Muswell Hill, London N10, in 1934, was there a maternity/nursing home called White House?

Trivia - 2 Answers

1 :
Man I looked on Y! UK FOR 2 HOURS. I give up.
2 :
Here is some history but no mention of White House Muswell Hill is named after a mossy spring or well on land given in the 12th century by the Bishop of London to the Augustinian Priory of St. Mary, Clerkenwall for use by the nuns as a dairy farm. The well was dedicated to Mary and because it was said to have great healing properties, it became the subject of pilgrimages. Muswell Hill was once part of the Forest of Middlesex. Tracks along the higher ground were made by man where the views were better and the going was drier. The Romans came and left evidence of their stay in the form of coins found near Muswell Hill Road, and in the remains of pottery kilns in Highgate Woods. The extent and duration of their settlement is unknown, but a fort may well have been established on the Highgate plateau, with it's steep slope on two sides and radiating ridgeways. After the Romans left, the hilly nature of the area seems to have held back the clearance of the land for agriculture. Woodland and its wild creatures flourished and became, as elsewhere, a feudal domain, in this case a manor of the Bishop of London. His hunting park embraced a large part of modern Highgate and Finchley. The southern boundary was contiguous with Hampstead Lane and Hornsey Lane, a demarcation which was also used between parishes and is perpetuated today in the boundaries of Haringey, Camden, and Islington. After the upheaval of the Civil War, with great changes in Land ownership, the outskirts of Muswell Hill started to develop with nearby Highgate developing as a country town with terraces of houses and shops for the professional men and tradespeople. Urban amenities included chapels of different denominations and numerous schools. Writers, academics, politicians, actors, and business people made their homes there. There are still to be found many homes dating back to the eighteenth-century and a few to an even earlier period. Muswell Hill is situated at the eastern end of the Northern Heights, which fall away dramatically here. Its commanding views over the Thames and Lee valleys have made it an attractive place to live over the centuries, providing a rural retreat graced by woods and hills for those who could establish estates. It was to escape urbanisation until the very end of the nineteenth century. The earliest recorded reference to Muswell Hill dates back to the mid-twelve century when the Bishop of London, who was the Lord of the Manor of Hornsey, granted some 65 acres to an order of nuns recently established in Clerkenwell. Situated on the east side of Colney Hatch Lane, this land contained a natural spring or well. John Norden, the Tudor Historian described how a King of the Scots was cured of a disease by taking the waters of this well, and in medieval times this well was to become a place of pilgrimage. The nuns built a chapel near it, "bearing the name of our Ladie of Muswell", and Muswell Hill became the name of the district in place of an earlier name. The chapel was to disappear with the dissolution of religious houses by Henry VIII, but administration of the land was to remain with Clerkenwell parish until 1900, and was known as "Clerkenwell Detached". Distinguished residents in the seventeenth century included Sir Julius Caesar, Master of the Rolls to James I, and in the eighteenth century Sir Topham Beauclerk, an illegitimate descendant of Charles II who entertained Dr Samuel Johnson and other notables at The Grove. Nearby were Bath House, The Elms and the Limes, large houses which clustered near the the pond at the top of the hill. London's nineteenth-century expansion led to many Victorian villas in their own ground being established, marked by the profusion of mature trees and bounded by chestnut paling. North Bank is a surviving example. But most were to disappear when, in 1896, the vacant The Limes and the adjacent Fortis House estate were purchased by James Edmondson of Highbury, giving him 30 acres of flat land in the heart of the village. Edmundson created a perimeter of shopping parades and laid out Queens and Princes Avenues. He went on to purchase Hillfield, the Elms, Wellfield and North Lodge, and to create a new suburb. Commodious terraced houses attracted middle-class residents. Another developer, W.J. Collins, simultaneously built over the Fortismere and Firs estates, and elsewhere. Between them Edmondson and Collins created within a short period of time a homogenous and unique suburb. Its shops and well-built houses, and its topographical position, continue to attract residents, and Muswell Hill maintains its reputation of being a good place to live. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CURRENT CHARACTER Muswell Hill's distance from any train station has caused it to become an insular community of elegant shops, leafy, Edwardian terraces and devoted residents. The population is known for its community spirit and is primarily composed of families, liberal, media-type professionals, and first-time buyers interested in its spacious houses and good schools.

Why do Americans want to move to London

Why do Americans want to move to London?
Ever seen some of the questions here? Do they not realize that London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and that an apartment alone would cost about 300,000 pounds? I saw a recent post from a fellow American inquiring about employment as a nurse in London and owning a vehicle and "a studio flat." Won't that be a little too much too afford with a 20,000 pounds salary? I'm American. Why are the majority of our citizens so deluded?

How is nursing in the United Kingdom compared to Canada

How is nursing in the United Kingdom compared to Canada?
I'm a recent grad from nursing and was hoping to travel and nurse. I'd love to travel around Europe and thought a fun place to use as my home base would be London. Over the past few weeks though I've heard some bad things about nursing in the UK. Things such as poor wages, poor working conditions and lack of responsibilities/allowance to perform many of the nursing skills I do here in Canada. Help me please with any of your opinions. I'd like to find out as much as I could before I head over or if I should even head over. Thanks!!

Excellent! try Paddington Hospital or Royal Norther Hospital on Holloway Road, both in London. Nurses in England are trained in hospitals

Under paid and under appreciated. London is horribly expensive and unless you want to spend all your time in London you'd be better off somewhere where you'll have low enough costs to still have a life.

Pretty much impossible. You are not a citizen and currently there is a big hiring freeze when it comes to nursing. They wouldn't hire a foreigner when so many of their own nurses are out of work. You would have to get a UK nursing license and a work visa. Both out of the question.

Are they other jobs asides from medicine or nursing that are in-demand in South London that would make me rich

Are they other jobs asides from medicine or nursing that are in-demand in South London that would make me rich?
I'm sure that most of you have seen my other question that if I take HRM, could I be rich in South London thing. Since you guys said that I may not be able to earn a lot then what other jobs are in-demand there in South London that would make me not really rich but enough to earn a living. I don't want nursing or medicine though...but again, If I take HRM and go to South London, will I at least be able to earn a living and then work my way to the top? I am determined no matter what to live in South London(don't ask me why South London though because I'm not really sure myself:D. Just make sure those in-demand jobs are in South London. Sorry if I'm demanding and all:D)Thanks....

There are a lot of nursing schools over here- best ocntact them directly and ask if they take international students. Try Kings college, UCL, or St Georges. You would have to pay higher fees than home students but other than that I can't see why they wouldn't have you. There is always a shortage of nurses in the UK so if you don't get to study here you could always come here once you are qualified. There are a lot of agencys on the web where they post qualified nurses to the UK and AUstralia. They sort out your visa and everything.
2 :
University College London and Queen Mary College are two of several London colleges or universities offering nursing programs. Most universities allow you to study for a semester, academic year, or directly enroll in their degree programs. One online resource to consider: www.gullivergo.com. The website is dedicated to helping students study abroad. You can search abroad programs by university, area of study, and cost. There are also discussion forums for you to post questions or get feedback from current or past study abroad students. You'll also find information on arranging visas, flights, insurance, and other tidbits that will help you once you've found the right program. Best of luck!

I want to settle down but my girlfriend wants to go back to uni

I want to settle down but my girlfriend wants to go back to uni?
I have been going out with my girlfriend for a few years now, we are both late 20's. When I first met her she traveled a lot with her job in the film industry then she gave that up to nurse her father when he was sick with cancer. All that time she was living at home mostly and I was living with my flatmate in rented accommodation. I have a good job and would like to buy my own place and settle down with my girlfriend however during the past few years while she has been nursing her father she only worked part time and did not make enough money to make a reasonable contribution to the mortgage and running costs of a house. I had hoped that when she finished looking after her dad (who recovered) she would return to work full time and start making enough money so that we could buy a house together. Instead she began talking about going back to school to pursue a career in art which is what she had origionally studied. I was not keen on the idea but was not able to tell her what to do and just hoped to myself that it would not come to anything as it's hard to get a place to study fine art at post graduate level and even harder to get funding. However she has managed to do both and has asked me to consider moving to london with her while she completes her studies (lasting 1.5 years). I don't like london very much and moving to london with her would mean renting a pokey one bedroom flat rather than buying. I never told her not to apply for the course so I cannot really say anything but I feel angry at her for not considering me in her plans. She is 29 and should grow up and get a job, house etc rather than messing around doing another degree. I find that I am not being very nice to her since I found out about her getting the place and the funding. I am being mean in small ways and belittling her a lot which I don't mean to do it just happens and its just because I am angry at her. However even if she goes to london alone to study I still want to be with her and conduct the relationship long distance till she finishes her studies and comes back home. What do you think, is she being selfish with her plans to study again?
Marriage & Divorce - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Nope. She cares about her education. Not selfish by any means.
2 :
No it is you that is being selfish and mean. She has every right to go finish her education. You planned on her working and using her income to help you buy a house where you want to live. You are using her and now you are angry because your plan is not gonna work out. You do not love this woman if you can treat her like this because she is not using her money to help you do what you want with no consideration for what she wants. I hope she goes back to school and meets someone that will help her do what she wants to do and not plan to use her and then get angry when she does not lay down for it. Shame on you
3 :
Neither one of you are wrong. Both of you need to do what is right for you as individuals. You simply are in different phases of life. You want to settle down, buy a house, get married, and make babies. She wants to be a college student and pursue a career. The conflict of your different life phases is what is creating the conflict for you. There is nothing wrong with either one. I think you should stay where you are and "let" her go to London. Either it will work out or it will not for the two of you.
4 :
No shes not being selfish at all. You kinda being a jerk. You haven't really said much but expect her to read your mind. Sounds like your the one who needs to grow up. Her priorities are just fine.
5 :
I think you are being pretty selfish here! Your girlfriend must be very talented if she was able to get a spot and it sounds like this is something that has been a dream of hers for a long time. If you really love this girl you need to support her and her dreams! I think she is being grown up, you are the one that needs to grow up and start being supportive of her rather than being mean and belittling her! If you can't bring yourself to be happy for her than you need to let her go because things just are not going to work. And she deserves someone who is able to support her dreams! What is so bad about London anyway? Or do you just say that you hate London because you resent her for going there for school? We all have to make sacrifices for the ones we love! Is it really so bad to wait for another year and half to two years before settling down and buying a home together? And can you not, if you really love her, just marry her now? I got married after my sophomore year of college and continued to go to school and work part time while my husband worked full time and we were able to by a house and he was fully supportive and encouraging the whole time and even encourages me to go to grad school. I understand this is a big change for you but you have the same pants to get happy in! How would you feel if you had a lifelong dream you wanted to pursue and when on a slim chance you were given the opportunity your partner was not even happy for you or the least supportive? Wouldn’t it crush you?
6 :
You are at two different places in your lives right now . When she completes her art studies , then what ? Is that an end in itself or does she want to work in that area ? I would not be sure that she will want to "come home" . You need to think things through and decide whats most important to you. If you have kids that will cut into income and you should plan on only your income for a mortgage. She may be able to contribute to a deposit and if she does work , that money can either pay off house sooner, or furnish it, and add to your savings as a couple. good luck.
7 :
Not to sound too harsh, but no, I think you're the selfish one. Your girlfriend gave up a good career and put her life on hold so she could be there for her father. Now she wants to do something for herself, and all you can think about is how inconvenient it's going to be for you. She managed to do the near impossible and get funding for a fine arts degree and you can't even be a little excited for her. You say you love her and want to be with her, but only if it's on your terms. You need to be honest with her and let her know why you've been so short with her lately. I personally think you should move to be with her and support her. And while you're there, maybe the two of you should see a couple's specialist and work on your communication skills.
